Primer album de Pink Floyd


Pink Floyd nació un día 5 de junio de 1964 a partir de una banda anterior que utilizó distintos nombres, (Sigma 6, T-Set, Megadeaths, The Screaming Abdabs, The Architectural Abdabs y The Abdabs), llegando a denominarse The Pink Floyd Sound, para quedarse posteriormente en The Pink Floyd y finalmente sólo Pink Floyd al publicar su primer disco en 1967.

El nombre proviene de dos músicos de blues, Pink Anderson y Floyd Council.

Los componentes originales de Pink Floyd fueron:

Bob Klose (guitarra solista),
Syd Barrett (voces, guitarra rítmica),
Richard Wright (voces, teclados),
Roger Waters (voces, bajo) y
Nick Mason (batería).

Syd Barrett dominaba la composición influido por el rock psicodélico y el rock surf, lo que propició la salida de Bob Klose, (más cercano al jazz), y dejando un cuarteto más estable.

En 1968, Syd Barrett, cuya salud mental se había deteriorado, debido a sus experimentaciones con diversas drogas pesadas, incluido el LSD, comenzó a hacerse cada vez más impredecible y los espectáculos del grupo fueron resintiéndose cada vez más, por tal motivo, el grupo llamó a
David Gilmour para asistir a Barrett en la guitarra y voces cuando éste sufriera alguno de sus bloqueos mentales.

Sin embargo, esta solución no resultó práctica y los demás simplemente dejaron de llevarlo a los conciertos.

Barrett había compuesto la mayor parte del primer álbum del grupo
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967)
y una pequeña parte del segundo álbum A Saucerful of Secrets (1968).

Poco a poco la figura de Barrett se hizo cada vez más ausente, hasta que finalmente dejó de participar en los trabajos con el grupo.

Los demás componentes siempre lo recordarían con afecto y llegarían a dedicarle canciones como "Wish You Were Here" y "Shine on you crazy diamond".

De esta forma empezaron a componer y liderar el grupo Gilmour y Waters.
Finalmente, Barret falleció el 7 de julio de 2006.

Fue grabado durante la gira de Atom Heart Mother, responde al deseo de encontrar un sonido nuevo, a la necesidad de un cambio radical.

One Of These Days (el tema de apertura) es un tema instrumental que posee sonidos graves y una guitarra con elevada distorsión. Durante el mismo, se escucha a Nick Mason, a través de una amplificador de guitarra, con un efecto de pedal, decir: One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces (Uno de estos días, voy a cortarte en pedacitos). Originalmente el tema era más largo y fue acortado.

A este se le suman las apacibles A Pillow Of Winds y Fearless, en la cual se escuchan hacia el final, grabaciones de las tribunas del equipo de fútbol Liverpool, cantando You'll Never Walk Alone, su himno.

Continúa con la elegante San Tropez y Seamus (un blues en el que se escuchan los aullidos del perro del mismo nombre), este tema fue previamente llamado Mademoiselle Nobs, con ese nombre se llamo la version que grabaron para el show de Pompeya.

Culmina con Echoes, tema muy extenso, resultado de la combinación de 36 fragmentos independientes, que fueron siendo reinterpretados y editados para formar la pieza final que se conoce.

Live 8


Live8 was a series of concurrent benefit concerts that took place on 2 July 2005, in the G8 states and in South Africa.

They were timed to precede the G8 Conference and Summit held at the Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Scotland from 6-8 July 2005; they also coincided with the 20th anniversary of Live Aid.

Run in support of the aims of the the UK's Make Poverty History campaign and the Global Call for Action Against Poverty, the shows planned to pressure world leaders to drop the debt of the world's poorest nations, increase and improve aid, and negotiate fair trade rules in the interest of poorer countries.

Ten simultaneous concerts were held on 2 July and one on 6 July.

On 7 July the G8 leaders pledged to double 2004 levels of aid to Africa from US$25 to US$50 billion by the year 2010.

Live 8 in Hyde Park, London

More than 1,000 musicians performed at the concerts, which were broadcast on 182 television networks and 2,000 radio networks.

Live Aid and Band Aid organiser Bob Geldof announced the event on 31 May 2005.

Many former Live Aids acts offered their services to the cause.
Prior to the official announcement of the event many news sources referred to the event as Live Aid 2.

However Geldof and co-organiser Midge Ure have since explicitly said they don't think of the event as the same as Live Aid. Geldof said "This is not Live Aid 2.
These concerts are the start point for The Long Walk To Justice, the one way we can all make our voices heard in unison."
